Frequently asked questions
Which towns does Calnet cover?
Calnet provides fibre (FTTH for homes and FTTB for businesses) and fixed wireless internet in Calvinia, Nieuwoudtville (also spelled Nieuwoudville) and Loeriesfontein in the Northern Cape. Our towers also reach many farms outside the town limits, including the Rooivlei farm tower, which covers a 20 km radius.
Do I have to sign a contract?
No. Every Calnet package is month to month. If you are not happy with the service you can cancel at any time without being stuck in a long-term contract.
How do I know if my address is covered?
Use the coverage check on our coverage page. Type your address, use your current location, or drop a pin on the map if your farm does not have a street address. If you are not covered yet, you can request coverage and we will include you in our expansion planning.
How much does fibre cost?
Home fibre (FTTH) starts at R619 per month for 20 Mbps and goes up to R1499 per month for 200 Mbps. There is also a VoIP-only 10 Mbps package at R499 per month. Installation is a once-off R1250, which includes a Wi-Fi router and an UltraLAN Micro UPS. Business fibre (FTTB) starts at R1999 per month with a once-off R2499 installation.
How much does fixed wireless cost?
Fixed wireless packages run from R400 per month for 10 Mbps to R1200 per month for 80 Mbps. For the antenna you can choose to rent it (R750, then R100 per month), rent to own (R750, then R200 per month for 6 months) or buy it once-off for R1750.
Is the internet capped or throttled?
No. Our home fibre and Rooivlei farm tower packages are uncapped, unshaped and unthrottled. Ask us about the details of any business or fixed wireless package.
Can I get internet on my farm?
In many cases, yes. Our fixed wireless towers reach well past the town limits, and the Rooivlei tower serves farms within a 20 km radius with packages from R600 per month. Drop a pin on the coverage map to check, or request coverage if you are just outside.
What is the difference between fibre and fixed wireless?
Fibre runs a glass cable all the way to your home or business and gives the fastest, most consistent speeds. Fixed wireless uses an antenna on your roof that links to one of our towers, which lets us reach homes and farms where fibre is not available.
Will my internet work during load shedding?
Every home fibre installation includes an UltraLAN Micro UPS that keeps your router powered during power outages.
Do you offer services for businesses?
Yes. Besides business fibre, we offer 3CX PBX phone systems, VoIP phones and services, Microsoft 365 licensing, domain and email hosting, website hosting, and website design and SEO.
